Common Femoral Open Endarterectomy
pROJECT dETAILS
A set of surgical illustrations made after observing a common femoral endarterectomy performed by Dr. Roche-Nagel, a Vascular Surgeon at Toronto General Hospital. These illustrations were designed to communicate a complex narrative while accurately depicting the anatomy and necessary surgical steps. The end goal was to create a set of figures mimicking the look-and-feel of a professional surgical atlas that were suitable for instructional use by medical students and residents learning the procedure. Illustrations underwent extensive iterative design through consultation with Professor Michael Corrin, and Dr. Roche-Nagle helped ensure anatomical and surgical accuracy. Two of the final illustrations were refined and rendered using traditional pen and ink techniques and arranged in Adobe Illustrator.
